As I have been on Santa's "nice list", I have received pretty much exactly what I wrote in my letter to the North Pole. All books in fact. So, having done the "tell", here is the "show".
First up a couple of hobby reads:
Then some to add to the French Revolutionary Wars library. The Blanning book I used for teaching, but I could hardly "borrow" the school copy. It's second hand with humorous cover graffiti.Plus, the following:
All 5 volumes. |
And lastly, a couple to continue my journey through the French Wars of Religion and Renaissance warfare.
Luckily, I read much faster than I paint figures. Now all I have to do is stay on that "nice list" during 2024.
Happy New Year all.
That's a great festive haul. Plenty of reading to keep you busy
ReplyDeleteIndeed, it is! I have Throwing Thunderbolts winging its way to me from a UK bookseller. I would sure enjoy seeing your review of this book when you finish reading it.
DeleteThank you. If I'm busy then I'm not getting into trouble Neil!!
DeleteJonathan, maybe we can read in parallell and compare.
A tandem reading and assessment might be an interesting exercise. Lord only knows when my book will arrive. Shipping was free so it may be taking the slow boat.
DeleteA nice selection of books there.
ReplyDeleteThe French Revolutionary titles are especially appealing.
Hale is worth reading but very, VERY dry!
Thank you. I am quite excited about getting stuck in
DeleteI agree that Hale is dry. There are others that are easier going.
DeleteYou have done well with wargaming related Christmas presents.
ReplyDeleteThanks Peter, I have been a lucky boy.
DeleteCrikey. Thats a very good haul! I have the Priestly and Lambshead book. Very instructive and very, very readable. A must have IMO for anyone wanting to write their own rules (for anything but solo consumption).
ReplyDeleteChris/Nundanket
I am pleased Chris.
DeleteYou are right about the Priestly and Lambshead book... I have devoured it already! Just need to go back and highlight some bits.
That is certainly a significant haul of printed matter Richard! A couple sound vaguely familiar as school or uni texts - particularly the one by JR Hale - the title just "sounds" scholarly!
ReplyDeleteSure is Keith. I will have to make space on my shelves now.
DeleteA great haul Rich. Be interested what you think of the Throwing Thunderbolts?
ReplyDeleteI'll do a review at some point soon.
DeleteHappy New Year sir!
ReplyDelete... and to you too Michal.
DeleteInteresting assortment there Richard. Some good reading to look forward to for the coming year.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lawrence, it's a mix that matches some of my primary interests.
DeleteA nice mixed haul there Richard and plenty to keep you going for 2024 on the projects front. Wishing you and yours a very Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteThanks Steve. They are ideal for my continual work on those projects.
DeleteA very nice haul of books...and a definite theme!
