My 6ft x 4ft wargames table has been temporarily repurposed for quite a few months now. A couple of weeks ago, the temporary nature of the situation became permanent. Consequently, with no dedicated gaming area, I will be giving away my terrain boards and most hills to the Rejects after the Broadside Show in June.
As my space shrinks, I will occasionally commandeer the dining table and have compensated my loss with the purchase of a fleece battle mat from Geek Villain, which arrived today.
I am rather pleased with it. It feels soft enough to use as a blanket in the winter.

The mat with some 28mm troops on it. Pleasingly, the basing style I use is reasonably complimentary with the mat. |

And a slightly closer look. |
Just got to work out when I can set up my first game. I must take into account all games can no longer be left set up for multiple sessions.
New challenges = new opportunities.
At least you will still get use of the terrain boards Richard, which look very nice indeed. Is there no chance of you getting your space back, even in a few years?
ReplyDeleteTrue, as the new owners put on their games in which I can participate. Alas, I see no chance for the foreseeable future.
DeleteThe mat does look a good match for your bases Richard. Something I've struggled with.
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm pleased with it.
DeleteNice looking mat. Are you not tempted to keep some of the hills to put under the mat?
ReplyDeleteThanks Peter. I have kept some hills. So, my battles will still have undulations.
DeleteNice looking mat. Like Peter, I would be tempted to hold onto the hills too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jonathan. I have kept some. However, my diminshed space means that I have no where to store the ones in the post above. Basically the whole Rivoli set up is being passed on.
DeleteGreat looking mat sir!
ReplyDeleteI pleased with it Michal.
DeleteA shame you are losing your gaming space, but atleast the rejects will benefit from your gaming boards. The Geek Villan mats are great, I've 2 of my own.
ReplyDeleteIt is good to know that they are going to good homes and will be used.
DeleteThat's a bummer about the loss of a gaming space Richard...must be hard, having had it, to lose it, but presumably there is a very good "real world" reason for the change. The new mat does look good.
ReplyDeleteIt was hard Keith. For a brief moment it felt like my hobby was shrinking. However, things change for good (or unavoidable) reasons. One just has to grasp the positives.
DeleteI shall look after the hills, Rich. Happy wife, happy life, as you said to me the other day........still a bloody pain though! Not the Mrs, losing the games room!
ReplyDeleteIndeed Ray. I know that you'll put the hills to good use when you get your table up and running.
DeleteGood looking mat and a nice match to your basing , which is a bonus, got to roll with it when times change, I know when I move next there will be an adjustment but for now I'm not worrying yet, who knows the horse might sing!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Well put Iain.
DeleteSorry to hear about the loss of your dedicated gaming space Richard:(. I do love the GV mats and now have two, both of which i'm very happy with:).
ReplyDeleteSometimes one has to submit to the flow of life.
DeleteI have decided that fleece is the way to go, too. I much prefer it over neoprene...
ReplyDeleteExcuse the pun, but it just feels right.
