Coming from the very versatile plastic box set of Light Cavalry 1450-1500, from Perry Miniatures, are the figures for two stands of mounted crossbowmen for the Great Italian Wars.
I got these second hand and already painted. However, they were in need of quite a lot of work to bring them up to standard. I think that I have painted better, but I am pleased with the result nonetheless.
This first stand is painted with the Sforza livery colours.
This one has the livery colours of the Colonna condottiero. Though other families, like the Orsinis, also have similar colours in their livery.
Up next, either Renaissance command stands or infantry.

Nicely done
ReplyDeleteThanks, Neil.
DeleteVery nice! I should take a look at this box.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jonathan. There are lots of options. Even more if you use parts from the European Armies box - e.g. mounted arquebusiers can be made. Perry also sell separate heads, like Italian heads.
DeleteTwo great looking bases of troops, Rich!
ReplyDeleteCheers, Ray.
DeleteBeautiful work Richard!
ReplyDeleteMuch appreciated, Michal.
DeleteThey look great Richard
ReplyDeleteThank you, Keith.
DeleteThose look great Richard and the basing is very well done too:). I've always wondered how they managed to draw the crossbow whilst mounted, even with mechanical help. I imagine the poundage must have been lighter than for foot drawn ones?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Steve. I assume the poundage was lighter. Which probably made the range shorter.
DeleteGreat job on these Richard. I imagine it is even more difficult bringing already painted figures up to the same level as your own, rather than starting with a blank canvas.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lawrence. It brings different challenges, but also the advantage of the figures being already undercoated.
DeleteLovely work on them, Like Lawrence I think it must be quite difficult with figures that are already painted but you have done a cracking job on them.
ReplyDeleteThank you Donnie. The challenge is in changing the existing colour scheme on the figures so it blends better with my own style. At least it brings otherwise unwanted miniatures back to life.
