Renaissance Halberdiers... Plus...

A while back, Reject Ray, of Don't Throw a 1, gifted me these halberdiers that he had "lovingly" stored in an ice cream tub.

They look like old Games Workshop Empire models.

A few of the halberds needed repairing and there was a lot of green.  All green in fact!  So, after gluing and some brushwork, here's the result.  Apologies for the dark photos.

Plus...  I acquired some minis from ebay. They were all on individual bases, but well painted to not need any touching up.  I was tempted to break up the blue, but decided to just hoist a flag or two and rebase them.

So, here are the rebased acquisitions.

Arquebusiers.  All Warlord Games Miniatures.

Doppelsoldners.  All Warlord Games Miniatures.

I have 28mm Austrian FRW cavalry currently on the go.  I would like to get them done before moving onto some Italian Wars command stands.

  1. That's some pretty effective rejuvenation of old units, the halberdiers are really jazzed up with just a few additional points colour.

  2. Glad to see the halberdiers all finished, they certainly look a hell of a lot better now, and I'm pleased they'll get soe use, rather than being stuck in that old box!
The two blue arqbusiers , look the part as well!
Can't wait for a game in the flesh.!

  3. A trio of fine looking units for your growing Italian Wars project. You’re getting a little help from your friends. How do you plan to use the dopplesoldners?

    1. Thanks, Jon. I plan to use them as part of pike units. That's where my reading takes me.

    2. I do the same but as an attached skirmish stand.

    3. I've based them in such a way that they could be used separately as well.

  6. Great work there Richard:). Those GW Halberdiers take me back many a year, assembling them and trying to make them fit onto the bases without the weapons clashing all the time!

    1. Cheers Steve. Luckily, I just had to repair a few halberds this time. The bigger base helps with the clash of arms you refer to.

    1. “Nicely done” not “Not Celt” 🙄

    2. Cheers Chris. At first, I wondered if there was some little heard accent being used.

    1. Thanks, Neil. It would be a shame to throw them away.

  9. A very nice refurbishment on these figures Richard. They look like nice sculpts with a fair bit of variety among the poses.

    1. Thank you, Lawrence. The old GW sculpts were good. Back in the day, I used to buy and paint Bretonians to supplement a 100yrs War collection I once had.
