Off the painting desk gallops a regiment of Austrian Uhlans circa 1796. This is the Mészáros regiment. Actually, in 1796, it was the only Austrian lancer regiment later to become the 1st Uhlans.
This formation gave extensive service in Italy in 1796-97 at the battles of Voltri, Lodi, Rovereto, Bassano (both engagements in September and November), Caldiero 12/11, Arcole, La Favorita and at the capitulation of Mantua in February 1797.
They are all Eureka miniatures. So, a larger than usual financial investment went into acquiring these bad boys. Only because I didn't know of anyone else who produced these troopers.
I've been working on these for too long and they have acted as a bit of a roadblock to other painting. I'm quite glad to have finally moved them on.
Not my best work - I think that I was more worried about shuffling them out of the way - but they'll do.
As they say, "good enough is good enough!"
On the painting desk now are secondhand Renaissance Swiss Pike in need of a "revitalisation".
They look great to me
